Grief & BereavEment support group

Our support group is for anyone who has experienced a death related loss. Grief is the acute pain that accompanies loss and is a normal and natural response. Grief can have an ongoing affect which can impact our everyday lives. Grief can intrude on thoughts, feelings and behaviours, affecting our relationships, our work, physical health, beliefs and our sleep and eating patterns.

A bereavement support group is a safe place where people can meet and provide compassion, comfort and support to one another. By reaching out to others, participants are given with the opportunity to communicate a shared understanding of similar challenges that bereavement brings.

The strength of such support groups lies in the connections that can be made with other group members, and understandings that come from shared stories and experiences.

There are many other benefits in joining a support group such as validation, social connection, suggestions for coping and instilling hope.

Struggling with grief? Give Lynn a call.

  • The group meets as the need arises
  • The support group is an open format where new participants can join at any time if space is available.
  • The group is organised by Clear Days Counselling and will be guided by a registered Counsellor for additional support. Group size will be limited to no more than 6-8 people. Sessions are non-religious and culturally sensitive.
  • To join a support group, call Lynn at Clear Days Counselling on 0410 355 922.

More about how wE Can Help...

Thinking about counselling?

Talking to someone we hardly know about our thoughts, feelings and experiences takes courage. If you’re feeling nervous, worried or uncertain, this is a natural response but the good news is that counselling can be a stepping stone to opening up new possibilities in your life. Well done for taking the first step towards positive change.

What happens in a counselling session?

Our focus is to help individuals heal and energise, while becoming aware of their inner strengths. We achieve this by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your story, and working together to discover, understand and achieve your goals. What we talk about is up to you. If something feels too uncomfortable, you have the right to let us know and we can move to another topic. During the session you may be invited  to try a range of activities, exercises or processes. This is always an invitation and you always have the right to say no. Because this is your session, it is also up to you how much you get out of it.

Our CLIENT Promise

We promise to be there for you, to listen without judgement. Our goal is to help you find a way to grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.  We're not able to provide any magical answers or advice, you are the expert expert in your life. Together though, we will explore options that best suit your resources, personality and boundaries.  We are able to provide you with a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space in which we can explore what’s true for you, and in which you can discover your best way forward.

Our Specialties are...

Bereavement & Grief

Bereavement counselling is a specialised type of counselling that involves supporting individuals who have experienced or are facing loss of any kind. This could be a loved one, beloved pet, a job, health or other circumstances. Counselling can help you work through your grief and the physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and cognitive responses to loss, as well as discover coping and management mechanisms.

Depression, Anxiety & Trauma

Depression, fear and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable challenges that we can experience at some point in our lives. Many individuals also experience insomnia, feelings of anxiety, fear, and hopelessness that linger after life-changing or traumatic events. Through counselling we are able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life, help you find ways to overcome these feelings and guide you through a process of grief and healing.

Children & Teens

Whether a young person is struggling with past trauma, processing grief, coping with mental health issues such as anxiety or depression, navigating life with ADHD/Autism, or has other issues affecting their happiness and behaviour such as challenging family and school relationships, children and teens can thrive when a caring, supportive and understanding counsellor listens and offers encouragement and respect. Counselling and support services may be NDIS accessible.

END OF LIFE DOULA

With a trained End of Life Doula, we can provide specialised care and fill a need in the often highly medicalised palliative process as a guide, support, companion and advocate for those with life-limiting conditions (or traveller as we like to say) and their carers. We can work hand in hand with the traveller, their family, carers and medical professionals to ensure the wishes of the traveller are fully realised.

Doula support services are multi-faceted, encompassing emotional, physical, logistical and informational needs of the family. A Doula can offer insight to assist the traveller and their family in making informed and affirming choices about the process of life, death, ritual and grief. We offer empathy, education and reassurance to encourage attitudes to evolve to embrace death as an inevitable and natural part of life.

Sessions available NOW

Walk & Talk Counselling sessions can be a part of a much more holistic approach to mental, physical and emotional challenges. The destination, how far we walk or how fast we go are not important and the walking is secondary to the conversations we’ll have. Walk & Talk Counselling sessions allow you to address issues in a way that can be more comfortable than talking face-to-face because you’re doing something, not just simply talking. Read more here.

About your counsellor

Lynn Darnell

Hi, I'm Lynn. I received my Bachelor of Counselling from the University of the Sunshine Coast and am a member of the Australian Counselling Association.

I have worked with and volunteer for the following organisations: Bloomhill Cancer Care, Lifeline, Cittimani Hospice Service, Australian Red Cross and IDCare.

When my dear Dad died a number of years ago, I was impressed and impacted by the support I received from counselling services and how much they affected my acceptance and healing. I saw incredible value in what was available to me. This was not my first experience with counselling, and over the years, when times have been tough, I've been able to work with some supportive and caring professionals.

Knowing personally how valuable counselling can be, I am now blessed to be able to be there for others. I offer an empathetic, supportive presence with a non-judgemental manner, in a caring environment.

Working together, we will search for solutions and discover your strengths, by encouraging you to reflect on and clarify your thoughts, feelings and emotions. Our goal is to restore your equilibrium and improve your wellbeing.
